Deja Voodoo - The Shape of Grunge to Come

I chose not to take Deja Voodoo too seriously when writing this review. That was definitely the right tack. Grungewolf first up has a great line in "I scream, you scream, we all scream for HEROIN!" but oddly enough it's still likeable as a song. I used to be a closet bogan so I have to admit to liking the actual sound of most of these songs whilst still appreciating their satirical lyrics.
Average Guy Pose is a funny anti-poser anthem. It's about being an ordinary guy in the crowd who is "really f-king loud". One of the best from the album, it makes you want to scream along.
Escalator could be described as a biting social commentary on people who stand still on an escalator. A pet hate of many, I remember even Nirvana mentioning it once in an interview. Once again they have coupled humorous lyrics with genuinely good music which has more layers to it now than it used to. This is an incredibly catchy song with the chorus "don't stand still on the escalator, don't stand still on the 'travel-ator', this is not an elevator, don't stand still on the escalator" and fantastic instrumentation throughout that make this song infinitely 'mosh-worthy'.
All of the songs on The Shape of Things to Come are gems that you'll want to turn up as loud as possible and rock out to. Deja Voodoo's sound has evolved. They have gotten better but have maintained their trademark brand of humour. This is an album you can put on and genuinely like as a rock/grunge album. Their sound on this album is good old fashioned head banging anthems. The songs are definitely more cohesive than past efforts. As a band they seem to keep getting better and this album really shows how much they've grown since their early days. They sound like an actual band but have maintained the parody and satire in their lyrics, people have come to expect from them.
