Evermore - Truth Of The World: Welcome To The Show

Evermore's Truth of the World is ambitious and a complete departure for the band. Its sound is more 80's rock opera than pop and the artwork for the CD includes a tabloid-like booklet with various "ads", which are really satirical statements about the world we live in, interspersed amongst the lyrics.
The first track is a man welcoming us to the "greater and better world of tomorrow" and the rest of the album takes satirical pot-shots at various aspects of society from global warming to the war on terror.
Truth of the World is a concept album. It is meant to be a clever and biting parody of modern times. Media manipulation, celebrity obsession, war, pollution, over medication of our children and even a sample from a JFK speech all feature but it falls short. It feels forced and artificial. In the end, I think, they over shot the mark.
There are some catchy, pop songs like 'Hey Boys And Girls' and 'Between The Lines' and kudos to the boys for taking more control with the production of the album but in general I doubt if Evermore fans will respond well to this one.
