Tim Finn - The Conversation

Iconic Kiwi musician Tim Finn has released his eighth solo album The Conversation.
This intimate album is a collection of emotive songs that flow, as the title suggests, like a series of conversations held between old friends.
Recorded at Auckland's Roundhead studios the album has an earthy undertone to it, created by Finn choosing mainly acoustic instruments and also steering clear of any drums.
Album opener 'Straw To Gold' re-introduces us to Finn's harmonious vocals that are perfectly blended with an evocative melody and sets the scene for the ballads and down-tempo songs, all penned by Finn, that feature on 'The Conversation'.
My personal favourite on this album has to be 'The Saw & The Tree'. This tranquil song features the haunting melodies of an actual bowed saw being played by professional saw player Alan Pitts.
'Rear View Mirror' has an intricate chorus that I found irresistible, with the lyrics telling a heart-rending tale of the world today.
'Slow Mystery' has a dark, solemn introduction, while 'Forever Thursday' spins things around with its folksy, upbeat country twang.
'The Conversation' carries simple but poignant messages interwoven into its songs, all with a delicate passion that must be savoured.
