The Quick And The Dead - Heartbreak 365

The Quick And The Dead are a Auckland based three piece band – Will Saunders, Alistair Walling and Ben Lockwood – playing good, honest, stripped down, clean, light and quirky punk rock. (The band have their own name / description for their sound which is as original as the music, but I'm keeping things simple and to what I know.)
Heartbreak 365 is a five track EP, the band's second and most recent release. The standout tracks are French Foreign Legion Girl and the title track, Heartbreak 365, but all five songs are fast paced fun! You could crank this EP up on your parents' system and, while they may not like it, no one's going to get offended. The songs are catchy and you find yourself singing them randomly days after playing the EP.
Lead and backing vocals fit perfectly with the twanging lead guitar, active and animated bass lines and lively beats from the drums and percussion, all being played well and working together in time and on queue. The tunes and lyrics are well written, fast paced and punchy. There's nothing quite like hearing a good three piece band in which the artists all know what their job is and when and how to do it.
The Quick and The Dead and Frisbee Studios have done a great job on the production of the Heartbreak 365 EP. It sounds good and professional but retains the natural alternative, edgy feel that you would expect the live experience to provide. The Album cover art work and layout are similarly well done, time and effort have gone in to produce a glossy and colourful fold out CD cover design. So you not only get a great five track EP of original well, played punk rock, you feel like you've had some funky local art thrown into the bargain. All up it's a great value package!
