Disasteradio - Visions

Disasteradio - Visions

I have a thing for electro, don't mind a bit of pop either if it's done in a left of mainstream way. So I was chuffed to hear the latest synthtastic pop offering from Disasteradio. The first chance I had to listen to Visions was as my three year old daughter and I went to pick my mother up from the airport. What is the point of this boring domestic tale? Well… At about track five my wee girl asked me to turn it up and spontaneously started dancing 'the robot' – I can't tell you how proud I was.

Luke Rowell is a prolific artist who has released about 150 songs on 5 albums as Disasteradio, most of which managed to slip under my radar. Then, a few months ago I saw him playing live and suddenly he was on my screen, loud and blipping, like some crazy invader from planet electro-pop. Since that gig I've been hearing Disasteradio all over the show, I've even seen a video on the goggle box. I reckon that if you're not already listening to this guy and his computer, you should get into it now, before everyone else discovers him and he gets seriously famous.

'Visions' is a full length collection of tunes that hark back to the origins of electro without resorting to rolling out tired clichés to fill space. If clichés do feature on the album they sound like an appropriate retake on a well known theme and therefore are relevant and very 'now'. For my taste, 'Digital Pop' is the standout track from the album, but 'Awesome Feelings' and 'Ultravision' are growing on me too.
