The Have – Back to the Burning Wreck

As well as possessing an absolutely classic rock n roll name, The Have are also in command of a classic rock sound. Their lyrics are catchy, their guitars might as well be ice-creams they're so full of licks and the drums leave me pounding my steering wheel as I crawl through rush hour traffic. The title song Back to the Burning Wreck, gets replayed three times, louder and louder. If that song doesn't get international recognition there is something wrong with the world.
On the first listen you might pick up similarities to chart stormers like The Kings of Leon and The White Stripes, or maybe strains of Credence Clearwater Revival and Cream. The album is a top shelf production, sophisticated, clean and dynamic, and for good reason; it was produced by Barrett Jones of Nirvana, Melvins, Atomic Boy and Foo Fighters fame.
If we were able to make a time machine out of old valve amplifiers and transport The Have to the American South at the end of the 60's, they would take the word by storm. Meanwhile back in 2007 I still reckon their chances are pretty good. They're talented musicians, with an ear for thoughtful numbers that have you coming back for another listen and a sublime knack for churning out stormers that rattle around in the back of your head and refuse to let you go.
