Originally released in 1994 on the Second Nature label, Proud was the genesis of a new style of pacific pop, R&B and HipHop. Proud was the first glimpse of the such Pacifican pioneers as OMC (or Otara Millionaires Club as they were known then), the smooth Southside soul of Sisters underground and Semi MCs and slammin funk of Pacifican Decendants. Reinforcing a Proud Polynesian identity, Proud took the sound to the charts both here and in Australia in spite of their generally whitebread musical tastes, going top ten here with 'In the neighbourhood.'
