Karakia

Indigenous musical alchemist Cindy Ruakere releases Karakia, a prayer album that invites the people of
Aotearoa to re-enter the story of their land with a fusion of European soundscapes and traditional Maori
instrumentation.

The latest in a string of compelling, authentic releases from local artist Cindy Ruakere, Karakia is an album
with a concept as unique as the diverse sounds that form it. Karakia is created to be a tool – an aide, a
guide, a resource – to help re-entwine the people of Aotearoa New Zealand into that thread, that connection between the land and her maker.

Having toured the globe extensively promoting a unique blend of alternative worship and sounds indigenous to her deep Maori heritage, Cindy Ruakere comes home on Karakia, celebrating
the depth of history in this land, imploring the listener to reconnect with that history and to seek its promise amidst an atmospheric journey
that combines European instrumentation with indigenous sounds.

Along with a stellar line-up of Kiwi musicians, multiaward winning nga taonga puoro expert Dr Richard
Nunns was brought in to craft the original sounds of Aotearoa throughout the seven movements of the
album.

From The Entry – Whakatauki to
the final movement, a reworking of the New Zealand National Anthem, the album provides a platform for prayer, helping the listener find that "Great, great calling bestowed upon this beautiful green isle at the bottom of the South Pacific."

In a time when a covenant between men is still hotly debated, it's hoped that Karakia can serve as a reminder of
the covenant God has with the people of Aotearoa...that it would call her people to prayer and remembrance of His promise and love for our homeland.
