The Mapmaker's Art
Working by himself, Sam Prebble coloured and contrasted The Mapmaker's Art over time, crafting an often surprising collection of songs which blend guitars, violin, mandolin, piano, organs, percussion and vocals with glitchy beats, warm reverbs, rolling basslines and washed-out ape echoes - producing a sound that is at once both nostalgic and innovative.
With echoes of New Zealanders Demarnia Lloyd, Cloudboy, Bachelorette and SJD, as well as the likes of Bjork, Beck, Neko Case, Thom Yorke and Leonard Cohen, Prebble has succeeded in piecing together an intricate, yet robust, album of touching songs.
