With Puhake Ki Te Rangi, Gillian Whitehead explores, in her own language, the world of sound that might have surrounded pre-European Maori.
The album is inspired by the presentations given by Richard Nunns, the sounds of the taonga puoro (singing treasures), which spoke to Gillian very strongly of the spirituality of her own Maori heritage.
