'Based On A True Story' is the eagerly anticipated, long awaited & much debated debut studio album from one of New Zealand's most loved & respected groups, Fat Freddy's Drop.

The legendary brotherhood of midnight marauders & purveyors of hi-tek soul, deliver an album which is steeped in dub, reggae & dancefloor electronica. Fat Freddy's Drop's music is a constantly evolving, organic experience, which is rhythm heavy with luscious coatings of jazz, soul & funk, rooted in Aotearoa & delivered with an Island attitude.

The album features 10 fresh slices of future funk, with surprises, fakes & freaky sidesteps throughout. There are new versions of live favourites like 'This Room', 'Hope' & 'Ernie' [also known as 'Willow Tree'], alongside the recent 12" 'Flashback' & six completely new tracks, all mystic supernovas of soul & phat goodness.

The skanking roots sound of Fat Freddy's Drop is crafted by the grouse powers of sublime vocalist & lyricist, Joe Dukie; award winning producer & MPC champion, Fitchie; mind bending guitarist, Jetlag Johnson; analog keyboard scientist, Dobie Blaze; and the booty shaking horn section made up of Fulla Flash on saxophone, Hopepa on trombone & Tony Chang, trumpet maestro.

'Based On A True Story' also features appearances from some of Aotearoa's finest under & overground musicians & singers, including Ladi 6 [VerseTwo], P Digsss [Shapeshifter / Sunshine Soundsystem], Hollie Smith, Rio Hemopo & Riki Gooch [both Trinity Roots], Nick Gaffaney [Anika Moa Band], Chris Yeabsley [Twinset] & Aaron Tokona [Bongmaster Inc. / ex-Weta].
