I Am Giant to play at Auckland's Music in Parks
Auckland music fans can get their fix for free at the 2013 Music in Parks series featuring international rockers, I Am Giant, which is the only free concert in their 2013 New Zealand tour. I Am Giant features well-known kiwi musicians Shelton Woolright (formerly of Blindspott) and Paul Matthews (from Stylus and Tadpole).
The series, in its 20th year, covers a wide range of musical genres including rock, country western, opera, hip hop, reggae and more. Enthusiasts can browse the Music in Parks site to see who's playing when and listen to tracks from artists to get a feel for those they haven't discovered.
Paul Matthews, bassist from I Am Giant, says, "we're stoked to be playing Music in Parks. Some of us grew up right here in Auckland and it's great to come home to feature in one of the country's best free concert series.
"We'll be bringing our A-game and can't wait to hang out with all our local fans."
Mayor Len Brown says Music in Parks is a much-anticipated and well-loved summer fixture.
"I'm thrilled that this free programme of events now stretches from Franklin to Rodney, bringing even more concerts and more music genres to Aucklanders, and giving our homegrown talent a great showcase in some fantastic settings."
I Am Giant are supported by a stellar line-up of local acts including Fire at Will, Ekko Park and 71 Sunset. There's plenty of activity over the Music in Parks season. Keep up to date via their Facebook and Twitter pages, or sign up for email updates on the Music in Parks website throughout the summer.
Auckland Council's Music in Parks 2013 programme features over 40 performances from 2 January to 24 March 2013.
