Voom's Andrew MacAskill - An Obituary

Andrew "Mac" MacAskill, founding member of Auckland band Voom, has died aged 49, on Thursday 13 September, after a short illness.
When Voom first got together in the early '90s, Mac and co-founder Buzz Moller spent years making music in their basement before any of it saw the light of the day.
By the time Voom did come out with their first album Now I Am Me in 1998, Danny Manetto had joined the band and they earned themselves a significant following on student radio stations around the country.
MacAskill eventually left the band because of tensions within the group, but his massive contribution to Voom in their formative years leaves a lasting legacy.
Mac's family have suggested that in lieu of flowers you make a donation to Mercy Hospice, Ponsonby, Auckland, who provided invaluable compassionate care to Mac and themselves.
