New Zealand Roots Festival
George FM and DUBJB Music have collaborated to deliver a concert that celebrates a humble yet powerful genre of New Zealand music.
Recognising the growing popularity of roots music amongst kiwi musicians, The Roots Festival at Auckland Town Hall on Saturday 3 December brings together both on-the-rise and established local and international talent in a seven-hour extravaganza that also incorporates styles of funk, reggae, soul and dub.
The Roots Festival was designed with the idea in mind that Auckland lacks a festival totally dedicated to this spiritual and culturally-influenced music genre.
Director of DUBJB Music and co-creator Rasam Moghimi believes The Roots Festival is perfect for true roots reggae lovers who appreciate the unique vibes that this style of music offers.
"The Roots Festival is for those of us who love nothing more than to immerse ourselves in soul-pleasing melodies and rhythms that feel completely natural to have a good skank to.
"And with bands and artists of this calibre performing at such an iconic musical venue as the Auckland Town Hall, it will certainly set a high mark for the rest of the summer festivals to follow."
Auckland Town Hall hosts a range of stages and rooms for attendees to get the feel of an outdoor festival as they make their way from bands on the main stage to DJs in nearby rooms.
Headlining The Roots Festival are legendary roots reggae band House of Shem, crowd-pleasing favourites 1814, and well respected pioneers in the game Cornerstone Roots.
Fans can expect to hear all the classics, exclusive new material as well as a few special surprises along the way.
Also gracing the main stage in the Great Hall will be The Midnights, Tui Sound System, and Dead Fool's Fiesta, all of whom are quickly emerging into the New Zealand music scene.
Playing in the Duetz Bar area is a diverse range of DJs including George FM's always-entertaining Thane Kirby, as well as Grassmouth, Dubhead, Prospect, Exile and Locksteady, all of whom are well rehearsed when it comes to delivering the funkiest of tunes.
Attendees of The Roots Festival will witness the birth of an exciting new festival designed for the people.

fIRST Roots Festival in NZ?? Has any 1 heard of the Sound Splash festival that used to be held at Raglan in the Waikato in Feburary every year. That was the best roots festival I'd ever been to. Good times!
