2011 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards Winners Announced
Both are taking home five Tuis, with The Naked And Famous winning the coveted Russian Standard Vodka Album of the Year Award and Brooke Fraser the International Achievement Award.
Guests attending the awards at Auckland's Vector Arena enjoyed live performances from Brooke Fraser, The Naked And Famous, Ladi6, Six60, Tiki Taane and Avalanche City. Legendary Kiwi band Supergroove performed its own unique version of Kiwi classic Rain in honour of this year's New Zealand Herald Legacy Award recipient Dragon.
The Naked And Famous, whose debut album Passive Me, Aggressive You hit the charts at No. 1 in New Zealand in 2010 and went on to debut at No. 25 on the UK album chart, took home all five awards in which it was a finalist.
On top of the Album of the Year win, the five-piece band also takes out the Vodafone Single of the Year, FOUR Best Group, Pacific Blue Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Best Alternative Album.
Passive Me, Aggressive You was released worldwide in March 2011 and received glowing reviews in Uncut, Mojo, NME and other publications. The band made the prestigious BBC Sound of 2011 long list and in February the band collected the Philip Hall Radar Award at the Shockwaves NME Awards in London.
In addition to her International Achievement Award, Brooke Fraser's Tui haul includes wins for The Edge Best Pop Album, Highest Selling NZ Single for Something In The Water, Highest Selling NZ Album for Flags and the Vodafone People's Choice Award.
Tuis announced on the night also go to:
· PPNZ Best Rock Album - Shihad for "Ignite"
· Best Roots Album - TrinityRoots for "Music Is Choice"
· Best Gospel / Christian Album - Parachute Band for "Love Without Measure"
· Best Classical Album - NZ String Quartet for "Notes From A Journey"

Recording Industry Association of New Zealand managing director Chris Caddick says it has been a momentous night for The Naked and Famous and Brooke Fraser - and a great night for Kiwi music in general.
"Every year the awards deliver great New Zealand tunes and provide a benchmark for both the industry and music consumers to gauge how we are performing. What's really pleasing is to see the succession of young musicians very much making their marks. My sincere congratulations to all the finalists and winners."
