The Earlybirds Win The Jim Beam Homegrown Band Search
The Earlybirds are officially New Zealand rock music's next big thing! The winners of the Jim Beam Band Search beat 120 other entries to take away the $15,000 prize pack including $5,000 cash, the all-important video grant from NZ On Air, a set on the rock stage at the Homegrown Festival and guaranteed airplay on The Rock.
The final decision was a tough one with the extremely high calibre of bands in the competition. The Earlybirds rose to the top with a combination of massive public support and strong songwriting.
Jim Beam Homegrown Festival organiser and judge Mark Wright explains, "The judges were really impressed with The Earlybirds, their songs are tight, they had the highest amount of public votes and they've been working really hard to break through for the last few years. It will be great to see them on the rock stage at Jim Beam Homegrown and to follow them and the other finalists throughout the year".
The five-piece band are lead by frontman Filip Kostovich, with Jared Aisher on bass, Sean Patterson on drums, and Kane Ter Veer and Mike Cannon on guitar. The Earlybirds are quickly gaining a reputation for delivering fast, rollicking melodies which are irresistible to dance to. This youthful quintet, are no stranger to the local touring circuit, having already supported such bands as Pluto, The Checks, Midnight Youth and The Feelers on their NZ summer tours. These boys have definitely planted the seed to becoming the next great rock band out of NZ.
Jim Beam Homegrown, which boasts 45 Kiwi bands and DJs across six stages along the Wellington waterfront, has sold out again for the fourth consecutive year.
