Several NZ Acts Given International Exposure In A Video Game

Local game developers Convergent Online Media, Rush Digital and Judson Steel launched Drift Legends in the iTunes App Store on Monday 7 February. The game features 15 original soundtracks by New Zealand artists, including Batucada Sound Machine, Anna Wilson, Siren Junkies and Dylan Storey.
Drift Legends is a 2D drifting game featuring 25 tracks and four cars. Players race through five countries - New Zealand, Australia, UK, USA and finally Japan, the home of drifting. The game rocketed to the number 1 position in the racing games segment three days after launch.
Darren Cottingham, the Executive Producer, explained his music selection. "Music really makes a game, but there are very few game developers in New Zealand producing games that can showcase them to the world. We've got some great marketing channels to help push it globally. We picked a mixture of artists that had existing exposure, as well as new artists - the condition was that they controlled their own publishing and were creating world-class music."
The fifteen soundtracks play as a background to the game, and there is the option when playing to jump out to iTunes or Amplifier to purchase the songs.
