Splore-city Timetable Released

25.1.11
[press release]
Our friend's at Splore-city have come out with their schedule of performances for the two-day event.
Splore-city's music, performance and art party will be shaking up Auckland's Big Little City on 11 & 12th February. Sweet soul sensation Mayer Hawthorne takes to the Splore-city stage with his band The County, on Saturday 12 February. Hawthorne is a singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist and his smooth voice draws deeply from the works of legends like Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield and Stylistics Russell Thompkins Jnr. With driving backbeats, feel good horn and sax melodies, Mayer Hawthorne and The County will bring those soul filled sixties vibes back to life.
Friday 11 February will be the standout day for New Zealand performances. Since taking out top prize in the 2008 Eastern Bay Battle of the Bands, Coast have developed their deep and complex sound, captured on their self-titled debut release. Coast are scheduled to take to the stage at 5.05 pm for a one-hour set.
Fly My Pretties need little introduction as an incredible multimedia concept assembled by Black Seeds frontman Barnaby Weir. Having already presented some sizeable shows this summer, Fly My Pretties will be on-stage at Splore City from 8.15 pm to 9.30 pm on Friday.
Last but not least on Saturday 12 February, local extraordinaire Eno will open the day's proceedings at 3.30 pm.
This rich trio of kiwi performances, combined with the lean line-up of international acts, give you plenty of reasons to attend Splore City on Friday 11 February and Saturday 12 February.
The audience can expect the party to be concentrated in the grassy area of Aotea Square. Festival Director Amanda Wright says "We've limited the tickets so we can maintain an intimate environment within the square to re-create the genuine Splore experience in the city. "
Splore is reknowned for its element of surprise that entertains the audience and Splore-city will be a reflection of all things synonymous with Splore, says Wright. "We've got everything from international aerial artist Empress Stah defying gravity, to the visually stunning digital show by Dub Module which will bring the buildings surrounding us to life along with artists like international graffiti maestro Eric Orr. We've got loads of performance and art entertainment that will complement the music line up and be the perfect reason for Splorer's new and old to join us for a magnificent outdoor party in the city."
The audience will be encouraged to dress in a kaleidoscope of colour and pattern to light up the concrete jungle and add to the Splore-city wonderland. It's anticipated that Splorers will be responsible for "colouring in the city" with their individual and collective antics.
