Pure Entertainment Finalists at the VNZMA

Pure Entertainment is very pleased to announce that two of its independent Kiwi artists are finalists at the Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards 2010.

The artists are Edwin Derricutt and John Michaelz, and both are finalists for Best Gospel/Christian Album. The albums are Three Hours South and Walk on Water respectively. The judge's short lists were announced last night at the VNZMA 2010 Finalists Announcement and Technical Awards Presentation, held at The Langham hotel in Auckland.

Three Hours South is the second independently released solo album from Auckland-based singer-songwriter Edwin Derricutt. This sophomore release picks up where Derricutt's previous album's title track 'Symmetry' left off ... with a full band offering a toe-tapping, lighter, cheekier and infectiously singable collection of pop songs. The first single from Three Hours South 'Life Boat' achieved Top 40 on the Radioscope NZ Airplay Chart (May 2010) and continues to receive strong support at radio across the country, with several more radio singles still to be released.

"Edwin Derricutt: singer-songwriter of the highest calibre really hits his stride." Graham Reid, www.elsewhere.co.nz

After many years of music-making throughout the world - including Iceland, England, Scotland, USA and Australia - and with bands such as Exodus (members of which went on to form the Sugarcubes with Björk), Hard to Handle, The Stone Babies and Kosher, John Michaelz has returned to his spiritual, musical and geographic roots to release of his solo album Walk on Water. Not only is John Michaelz's voice and music reminiscent of international greats like Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, it also brings to mind some of our very own homegrown legends such as past New Zealand Music Award-winners Derek Lind and Dave Dobbyn. Featuring the radio single 'In Your Arms' - a duet with Shona Laing - Walk on Water is classic gospel blues rock, proudly made in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Pure Entertainment congratulates all other New Zealand Music Awards finalists, in particular Magnify whose album Wonderland is also finalist for Best Gospel/Christian Album.

The Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards 2010 ceremony will be held on Thursday 7 October 2010 at Vector Arena, Auckland, with tickets available to the general public.
