CHARTDISC Vol 2 - APRA Awards 2009 Special Edition

[press release]

CHART is proud to announce CHARTDISC Volume II - an APRA Silver Scroll Awards Special Edition CD sampler featuring a selection of Christchurch's finest alt-country, nu-folk artists.

With the generous assistance of APRA, CCC, Bodgie Beer, the Lonestar Café & Bar and other alt-country/folk music supporters Goodbye Blue Monday, Real Groovy, Deflux, RDU98.5FM and many others, CHART www.christchurchmusic.org.nz has produced another CHARTDISC - a promo CD sampler of earthy gems from Christchurch's finest alt-country nu-folk bands packaged in another eco-friendly APRA Awards commemorative CD six-panel wallet.

Including the Beatles'-esque harmonies of folk-pop Silver Scroll favourite Lawrence Arabia, the sampler showcases Christchurch at its best, both alt and nu.

Everything is here, from the road-hardened spirit of The Eastern, the delightful nu-folk of the Ragamuffin Children, Hera, Kim K and Flip Grater, combined with the energy of rockabilly upstart Lindon Puffin and the Transgressions with hefty servings of country heartache from The Unfaithful Ways and The Easy Hearts and edgy alt-country anti-heroes Von Klap and Delaney Davidson, to the indie-folk of Tim Chesney and the heartland remixes of Jody Lloyd and veterans The Bats - yes, The Bats.

This selection of road songs has been collected to celebrate the 2009 Silver Scrolls being held in Christchurch for the first time.  As CHART's second compilation of 2009, Jeff Fulton explains the genre selection change from CHARTDISC Vol I.

"There is an abundance of folk and alternative country acts doing well at the moment. Von Klap won RDU's RoundUp band competition last year, The Eastern scored the support slot for Steve Earle's national tour, the Ragamuffin Children's latest album has been very well received and The Unfaithful Ways seem to have that something special."

"This collection of songs has been produced to also celebrate Christchurch hosting the 2009 APRA Silver Scroll Awards, the first time in its history it is being staged in the South Island. It is an absolute privilege to have so many musicians, songwriters and industry in town around September 18,'' Fulton adds, "so releasing a compilation that includes some of the award nominated artists and those performing on the night makes perfect sense. Keep an eye out for the bonus APRA Silver Scroll history in the artwork too''.

"Christchurch's musical tradition continues to amaze. CHARTDISC Vol II is another illustration of the talent from down there. The APRA Silver Scroll on the 17th September will be a truly memorable night." says APRA's Ant Healey.

CHARTDISC Volume II 2009 has been hand-picked to be turned up loud for those long solo drives through the Southern high country and is for promotional/broadcast only.
