Batucada Sound Machine to Collaborate with King Kapisi, Cherie Mathieson, Miho Wada

25.08.09
[press release]

Be witness to some genre-defying collaborations, as BSM and guests deliver what promises to be a stunning night of dance, hiphop, afro-grooves and latin goodness.

BSM are stoked to announce another special night of collaborations, and they are bringing in a bunch of very special friends to share the stage with.

After the success of the April show which sold out, the BSM crew are planning a repeat event - this time with the mighty King Kapisi, lovely Cherie Mathieson and the multi-instrumentalist Miho Wada.

BSM are no stranger to collaborations, with Che Fu, Kevin Field and Lewis McCallum all appearing on their last album 'Rhythm and Rhyme'. Says band leader James Hughes -  "Its something we all enjoy doing and helps to keep the band and the music fresh".

And what can people expect on the night? According to James, anything is possible. But expect to see these fantastic musicians go places they may not have gone before, with styles of music that may not be so familiar to them - dangerous? Yes.... But sure to be inspiring to say the least.

A bit about the lineup below:

King Kapisi: One of NZ's finest MCs and musical talents, King Kaps has been at the forefront of the NZ scene for the last 10years. Having just released is new album and in the midst of a national tour, we are stoked that the King is on the bill....look out.

Cherie Mathieson: Cherie needs no introduction. She has worked with countless NZ and international artists and producers - including Mark de Clive Lowe, Shapeshifter, Chris Cox, Lewis McCallum, Relaxomatic Project, Tama Waipara, Lanu and Chris Cox etc. Her soulful vocal style is unmistakeable and her vocals have graced recordings such as the Café del Mar and St Germain series. She is currently working towards a new release later this year. Stay tuned for that one!

Miho Wada: Miho is a virtuouso flute and saxophone plater....whose talent was spotted by none other than Nigel Kennedy at the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in 2003 - which then led her to perform jazz trio concerts with him in London and Malven. Since then she has been encouraged her to write and perform more original material as well as playing Jazz, Latin, Salsa, Rock, Pop, Funk, Ska and other World Music. She has toured the world and is now back in NZ. She has a strong passion for Cuban Music which brought her to travel to Cuba frequently in the last few years. In 2008 she trained under members of the Sierra Maestra and the Buena Vista Social Club and performed alongside with them during the Havana International Jazz Festival....
