Head Like A Hole are back on the road again

12.02.09

For a decade, Head Like A Hole stormed across rock 'n' roll stages in New Zealand, Australia and Europe and they created headlines with their anarchic, musical mayhem -- that mixed their metal roots with with on stage madness.

The band members had silly names -  Boogabeast (singer Nigel Beazley), Datehole (bassist Nigel Regan), Hidibeast (drummer Mark Hamill) and Tallbeast (bassist Andrew Durno).

The band's early indulgence in on-stage nakedness (and naked publicity photos) gained sensational press in both Australia and New Zealand. But after the release of their debut album 13 their music was soon gaining excellent reviews from music writers including RipItUp, NZ Herald,  Hot Metal (Australia), On The Street (Australia), Kerrang! (UK) etc. The band were soon touring Australia and on the cover of magazines such as Sydney's Drum Media.

When Tom Watson joined for album three, the band added a dose of melody to their metal and madness mix. Songs such as 'A Crying Shame', 'Cornbag' and 'Comfortably Shagged' showed a band maturing as musicians.

Music writers still struggled to describe Head Like A Hole's unique music hybrid and came up with -- "rhythm and balls" and "maestros of schlock rock."

"A sonic blast of refreshingly disruptive noise," said Jeremy Sheaffe of Australia's Hot Metal. In 1996, Sydney music magazine On The Street wrote -- "Head Like A Hole are easily one of the most creatively brilliant bands in the modern world."

Live, Head Like A Hole were (to quote Tina Turner), "Simply the best, better than all the rest ..."
