Fat Freddy's Drop Album Out Soon?

11.02.09

"Fat Freddy's Drop album out soon! Yeah right." Now that would have made a winning Tui billboard. The phrase "long-awaited" is bandied about far too frequently, but it couldn't be more apt for this Wellington outfit's debut album." John Russell, Herald On Sunday reviewing Based On A True Story

After working on the follow up to their breakthrough album Based On A True Story for the past two years, jamming live on stage and recording in the studio Fat Freddy's Drop announced their new album Big BW would be released in November, unfortunately the album wasn't ready in time and is now due for release sometime in early 2009.

The band who are reknowned for working on 'island time' have yet to give us  the answer to the question on fans lips worldwide  - is the album out yet!?

UPDATE

The album, Big BW, is on Pre-Sell now and will be released on May 25th

  • Having seen these guys live a few times over the last few years I have shelled out again to see them during the Wellington Jazz fest.

I'm hoping (as always) for new material .. every gig is different but I'm amazed they don't get bored working over / whacking out the same (cough) tired tunes.

There are a lot of bands that struggle to follow-up (Leftfield, Stone Roses, etc, etc). 'Island time' is just a convenient excuse for (possibly) a general lack of ideas / creative energy.

Good luck getting the new album out boys. I am looking forward to it.

  • Based on a True Story has now been in the NZ top 100 albums chart for coming up towards 4 years. It spent 108 weeks in the top 40 and has gone 8 * platinum (somewhere in excess of 120,000 sales). I guess they could wait to release the new album when people lose interest in BOATS.
