Dunedin trio Delgirl begins a massive 29-date tour throughout New Zealand at the end of August.
With generous support from Creative New Zealand, the band will bring their unique blend of folk/swamp/roots music to a town near just about everyone.
This talented group of women weaves tight harmonies around the double bass, guitar, banjo, ukulele and percussion. Singing songs about love, murder, lonesome livestock and road rage, Delgirl have delighted audiences in Wellington and the South Island, as well as appearing on National Radio and TV One's Good Morning show.
The band comment: "We had such a lot of people from around the country get in touch with us after our May tour to Wellington asking us to come and play for them. Receiving assistance from Creative NZ means this is now possible. We were totally blown away by their support, it is such a huge positive acknowledgment of our band and what we are trying to achieve musically."
Following the successful release of their debut album Two, Maybe Three, Days Ride in November 2007, the band has received great reviews from music critics and has repressed the album twice. Reviewers have compared them to The Be Good Tanyas and Tres Chicas, however noting a unique and distinctive Delgirl sound coming from heartland New Zealand via a Louisiana swamp.
