Lose yourself in the music of Lucid and Dobbyn

The NZ International Festival of the Arts is thrilled to announce separate shows for Lucid 3 and Dave Dobbyn which include a very special treat. The legendary singer-songwriter will make a special on-stage appearance at Lucid 3's performance, as well as performing his own gig, at this year's 2008 Festival. Expect the exceptional as first-class New Zealand musicians collaborate in a partnership that combines the burgeoning talents of Lucid 3 with a time-honoured genius.
NZ music darlings Lucid 3 have created a genre all of their own, fusing together the rhythms of roots, blues, folk, pop, rock and trip-hop. The band consists of Victoria Girling-Butcher (songwriter, guitars, keys), Marcus Lawson (six string/bass guitars, keys) and Derek Metivier (drums/producer).
There is no need to introduce New Zealand icon Dave Dobbyn. The names of some of his songs say it all … "Be Mine Tonight", "Language", "Loyal", "Slice of Heaven" and "Oughta Be in Love". Dobbyn will initially playing solo on piano and guitar, before inviting his band on stage. An incredible, intimate, one-night only performance, in addition to his special guest appearance at Lucid 3's show.
Initial connection between the artists began when Dobbyn was approached to share his skills in song arrangement during production of Lucid 3's latest album Dawn Planes. "We had demoed a few of the tracks and Dave was particularly taken with a song called 'Echo Back'. He played around with it, cutting and pasting into a new arrangement and we were all really, really happy with the outcome. His input has been really cherished," says Lucid 3's Victoria Girling-Butcher.
Lucid 3 and Dave Dobbyn's strong-hold in the New Zealand music scene is shown by the high-calibre of acclaimed albums they have previously released. Their individual shows will include classics and new material, as well as some electrifying collaborations with said artists and other special guests.
Lucid 3 perform ONE SHOW ONLY on 26 February, 7.30pm at Pacific Blue Festival Club which will feature Dave Dobbyn, David Long and Age Prior.
