World Vision Global vigil for World AIDS Day

27.11.07
World AIDS Day is coming up on December 1. World Vision offices around the world are participating in a vigil to draw attention to World AIDS Day and the fact that 6000 children lose a parent every day to HIV and AIDS.
World Vision New Zealand works extensively with people affected by HIV and AIDS in many of our project areas, both in the Pacific and further afield.
World Vision US will begin the vigil in New York and will be carried on by international World Vision offices in different time zones. World Vision New Zealand's part of the vigil will be from 7:30-8:30 am on Friday November 30, in Western Park, Ponsonby, Auckland.
The vigil will open with drumming by a Pacific Island group. There will be speakers from World Vision and Positive Women and performances by The Midnight Youth and Luke Thompson.
Candles will be lit for the 300 or so children who will be orphaned around the world by HIV and AIDS, over the course of the hour of the event. Red World AIDS Day ribbons will be given out Byzantium is opening early so everyone involved can get their caffeine fix! Local school children are also coming along to be part of the event.
