The Cakekitchen live in Sydney

16.11.07
The Cakekitchen are one of the longest surviving bands from the well respected 1990's cult US label Homestead records. Essentially a songwriting project more than a meat and potatoes rock band the Cakekitchen has managed to weather the gauntlet of changes in musical fashion and styles with surprising agility and made a boatload of critically well received CDs and LPs along the way.
Always operating on the fringes of whichever musical pool it willingly places itself in the group has been solidly based in continental Europe for the last 10 years ( mainly operating from just inside the german/dutch border) organising its own tours and releases in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Holland, Belgium and Switzerland.
The group has never once played in Australia before and in true Cakekitchen fashion has organised it's own ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY show in a non-typical venue, this time the wonderfully named Bald Faced Stag in Leichhardt. You really have to see the stag. He is truely amazing and worth the price of the visit all by himself.
The group is well known for going to great lengths to make each show as different as possible from the previous one. A wide array of instruments are used ( especially in the context of music played in pubs) and the backline features electric and acoustic guitars, piano, drums, cello, viola, vocals and percussion. It also sports a different line-up from the last European concert and features members of well received bands This Kind of Punishment and Nocturnal Projections. Local support comes from The Finalists.
