Arch Hill June News Update

11.06.07

While us folks in the southern hemisphere may be thinking about hunkering down for the soggy season, drinking mulled turnip wine, spending a month under the duvet, consider this!; the stoic musicians on the Arch Hill label soldier on regardless...and here is what they have in store for you!

Forthcoming Grand Prix Album and Shows

Yep that's right, Wellington's favorite sludgy country combo are back with a significant line-up reshuffle, an album recorded in a car club under frightening metaphysical circumstances (we'll tell you about that later) and even more of a kicking live show. Andrew McKenzie (vocals, guitar) and Davey Geard (drums, vocals) remain – but they are now joined on the bass by Nato 'the Force' Hickey (Paseload, Fly My Pretties) and on keyboards by Adam Ladley (Velvetones, The Bonnie Scarlets). These changes (and a brush with 'The Devil') have bought a more confident 1960s and 1970s musicality to their sound. It also brings a little more drive at the low 'ass moving' end, a touch more burning organ in the middle and a smidgen more widescreen trem-reverberation up at the top. Of course McKenzie's thunderous voice remains, which was described by Scott Kara of the NZ Herald as "a cross between Nick Cave and Kiwi country icon, John Hore Grenell" Holy Cow! The album is due out on July 2nd and is called Terraplane Twilight
