Utilise the force of music to raising public awareness of social and political issues!
This package showcases Aotearoa/NZ music from different eras, and providing modern, multi-media educational material. This compilation aims to broaden public engagement with the issues, and ensure that awareness of our nuclear free heritage and environmental ethos is passed on to younger generations.
The "Nuclear Free Nation" CD/DVD compilation is an excellent tool for working towards the goal of educating the public around the issue of nuclear disarmament and environmental sustainability.
It is clear that there are now far more diverse nuclear dangers than there were 20 years ago (India, Pakistan, North Korea, USSR's crumbling nuclear / military infrastructure, continued high-alert US and Russian missiles…the list goes on!).
In 2007 the nuclear disarmament issue has almost dropped completely off the public radar with young New Zealanders losing touch with the significance of what it means to be 'nuclear free', and the difficult journey that this country made to become nuclear free.
DVD: The Disarmament and Security Centre has a history of successful work in this field of nuclear education, having integrated the Tau Te Mauri: Breath of Peace DVD and resource booklet into every secondary school, wananga, university and polytechnic in the country.
Nuclear Free Nation DVD aims to inspire all New Zealanders to investigate our nuclear free heritage in a fun, creative, multimedia environment. It also provides teachers with a tool to help engage their classes in this investigation. By combining in-depth research with simple, effective educational tools, it encourages critical thinking on issues such as
• National identity, International relations, Environmental concerns related to the side effects of the nuclear industry, Pakeha/ Maori/ Tau Iwi relations
• Music Videos: Minuit-I Hate Guns, Jakob- Nice day for an Earth Quake, Kora- Politician, Pitch Black- Electric Earth, Benny Tones- The Calling (Greenpeace archive),LOOP DVD's
This CD / DVD will draw attention to the gifts that Aotearoa/New Zealand offers to us and to the world, if we just take the time to look around and appreciate what we have.
