The Southern Chill Tour dates announced

28.05.07

The Southern Chill tour is bringing together some of the South Island's finest downbeat artists for a series of four shows showcasing a range of styles from ambient to dub, from triphop to psy.

Invader Tron (Christchurch) uses a range of software and hardware to construct and perform his music, influenced by artists such as Shulman, Bluetech, and Rhian Sheehan. From spacious soundscapes, to broken glitch-tech, synth-driven psy dub and chunky slowtrance, he uniformly attempts to create a strong progressive habitat. Invader Tron will be joined by vocalist Karina Tui in Christchurch.

With a strong interest in pop culture, and inspired by The Orb, Lemon Jelly and Boards of Canada, Sharkweek (Dunedin) filters these influences to produce something new yet also familiar. A rich blend of lush electronica, sometimes-busy beats, and manipulated sound FX are complemented by vocal samples from TV and movies. It's music that's simple yet dense, spacey without being formless, and humourous without being silly!

Stray Theories (Timaru) is the project of musician / producer Micah D Wolfe. Heavily influenced by the pioneers of ambient music, it has evolved into a fusion of layered soundscapes and beautiful melodies, with touches of industrial, lounge, triphop and electronica; a sonic journey that will move you and expand your mind. Stray Theories music has appeared worldwide on various compilations, documentaries, and short films, with more exciting projects to come! The fourth Stray Theories album is due to be completed this year.

Joining the Southern Chill Tour in Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown are Christchurch-based duo The Ragamuffin Children. They play a delightful blend of new folk and soul, and some nursery rhymes also. Anita plays fiddle, guitar, and sings beautifully, while Brooke tinkers about on the glockenspiel and piano. They have been compared to Joanna Newsom, Fiona Apple, and Regina Spektor. Currently they are in the process of completing their debut album "Werecat Lullabies".
