Sam Flynn Scott on tour with Voom and Punches

Meet Samuel Flynn Scott: the twenty something year old musician responsible for the success of Wellington outfit The Phoenix Foundation, Bunnies on Ponies and more recently, his solo album that critics have dubbed "more good songs than one band can handle", The Hunt Brings Us Life.

Sam's first foray into music was in his teens, listening to the sounds of indierock legends Sonic Youth, The Pixies and The Velvet Underground. Many of these early rock influences merge with musical tastes acquired over the years though song writing with The Phoenix Foundation (country, pop, folk, love songs) creep into the album. "I was writing a whole lot of material that seemed a bit folksy for The Phoenix Foundation," Sam explains. "Also, I was listening to a lot of improvised and angular music and somehow wanted to combine those elements into one project."

On his NZ tour to promote the album, Sam will team up with indie-pop group VOOM and electronic folk-pop duo Punches (both of whom are also celebrating recent album releases, Hello, Are You There? and the Punches EP). Sam likens touring with the bands to a well loved vice.

"Touring with VOOM and punches will be like touring with icecream and lollipops", he laughs. "Exciting and delicious but ultimately bad for my health!"
