ARTIST: Citizen Band

In mid 1977 Mike Chunn returned from the UK as an original member of Split Enz. With brother Geoff (also and early member of Split Enz) he decided to form a new recording outfit built around Geoff's compositions.

They called themselves CB, short for Chunn Brothers, but this was mistaken to be an abbreviation of Citizen Band, so that name was adopted instead.

Glyn Tucker of Mandrill Studios showed interest in the concept and he agreed to record some tracks at Mandrill Studios. So into the studio they went, recruiting Brent Eccles on drums, Greg Clark on guitar and Warren Sly on piano. Greg and Brent had both previously been with Space Waltz.

A single In A Lifetime/Good Morning Citizen was released in September 1977.
They debuted at the Island Of Real in October and gigged around during the rest of the year, adopting the look and sound of a 60's beat group...

I clearly remember the first time I heard Citizen Band. It was '78 and I was 13 sitting on the corrugated iron roof of a derelict house in Birkenhead. At the scate bowl across the valley they blasted out the Ladder song to the speed skate. I was hooked and so started an appreciation for CB toons that has lasted over 30 years.
