Hello, I'm Chris Thompson.I'm living in Hamilton N.Z.(my hometown)and playing a couple of local gigs.I've had some success recently with another of my songs being covered-my setting of"The Song of Wandering Aengus" has been recorded in England by The Straw Bear Band.This brings to six the number of my songs that have been recorded by other artists.The others are "London Blues", "Wild Rose', "We neeed Oil", "Hamilton" and "The River Song". I'm looking forward to the re-issue of my original Village Thing L.P. from 1973 on Sunbeam Records in the U.K.-This is a re-mastered and repackaged C.D. release with ten bonus tracks culled from subsequent N.Z. releases and seems to be a defintive and high quality collection.All correspondence is welcome, Cheers, C.T.

Hi Chris,
I like your music a lot. special your first album. It's a beautiful story how i got this album. My name is Hans Hendriks and i come from Holland. In 1976 i heard your record when i was with a friend and from that moment on i was sure that i had to have that record. I looked over 2years and then luckely i found 2 of them in a store in Arnhem in Holland. Cheap between other foreign albums. I bought them and gave 1 away to another friend.
Now i realize that it's a very unique record, i read on the internet that ther are only 900??
I think i was very lucky.
In all this years i played the record very often and very often i had to explain that you are not the CHris Thompson from Manfred Man and so on.
I want to thank you for the beautiful music you made and make!!

Hello Hans-nice to get your message! I am so glad that you like my music-Holland (and Belgium) have always been very receptive to my work: I think you dig very deep!I've been doing local gigs here in N.Z. and assembling a new version of my original album (with ten new bonus tracks) that is to be issued by Sunbeam Records in the U.K. in September.I hope the sun shines on you and your friends! Travelling to London this weekend for the 40th Anniversary of "Village Thing Records" All Day Event at English Folk Dance & Song Society at Cecil Sharp House. Your fellow VT-conspirators Dave Evans, Steve Tilston, Wizz Jones, Tucker Zimmerman, Ian Anderson, Ian Hunt, Keith Christmas, Maggie Holland, Keith Warmington are all playing and there are some younger "influenced by" performers and some seminar/discussion groups taking place.
I just wanted to say that while there are one or two other ex Village Thing artists not present the lack of CHRIS THOMPSON on the Bill is the MAJOR absence & let-down of the Event. Of my Village Thing Albums yours is one of the most crackly and scratched from all its outings at far too many early morning smoky-roomed sessions.I will make sure you and the album get talked about during the day.
Great to hear of the planned Sunbeam CD rerelease! If you've got a minute some time - what's the story of the 10 bonus tracks and when & where do they date from......

Hey thanks v much for your kind words!I'm very interested in that concert and would like to be there.I've heard the "Ghosts from the Basement "C.D. and like it a lot-I play it often.All the tracks are good and there's one or two nice surprises as well!The 10 bonus tracks are culled from albums made in N.Z. and date from the '70's right up to the present time.They are all my own songs except for two poems that i set to music-Longfellow's "Vox Populi" and Christina Rossetti's "When I am Dead".Here's a link to the video :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZwwdUkFmZA I've tried to maintain the feel of the original album, although here in N.Z. there's always a big demand for blues and I've had to respond accordingly.Hope that you get to hear it, it should be in production soon. Thanks for quick reply Chris. I shall make a definite point on Saturday of saying you were very interested in the concert and would like to be there.If you want to say anything else tell me here and I'll announce it at the Concert.
If there were 300 people at Event(I suspect there will actually be considerably more as it seems to be getting a lot of coverage) an extra 5 pound on the ticket price would have made �1500 to cover your air ticket and expenses while in UK and possibly allowed you to do that dream gig again down in the Paris Metro.Oh well - too late now!The Rossetti song and video are absolutely great. I will contact Ian Anderson and see if there is any way the video could be played somewhere during the Event. I'm sure lots of people would greatly appreciate.
I will send you a facebook friend request at some stage and after the weekend I'll put some things up on there about how it went. Best regards - Jim

For the benefit of those who may be confused, I am not the Chris Thompson who sang with Manfred Mann.I am a New Zealander whereas he is English.Its true that he did spend some of his youth in Hamilton N.Z. (my hometown) and I knew him quite well, but he pursued pop music while I was more into Country/Folk and Blues.He's alright and I wish him well but for those who are interested in Roots Music, my new collection ( a re-issue of my 1973 Village Thing U.K. album plus bonus tracks) will be available internationally from Sunbeam Records from December 7.-"Chris Thompson" Sunbeam Records SBR2CD5078
