The Trons

The Trons are a self playing robot rock band. They began life in the summer of 2008 when a load of junked electronics and a decommissioned ATM machine landed at their managers doorstep. With a bit of rewiring, some motors, old guitars, drums and keyboards, the band was born. They were christened The Trons after their home of Hamiltron..."city of the future".

After a couple of highly successful gigs a youtube clip was posted which went viral. The UK Guardian claimed them "the most exciting electronic band since Kraftwerk", Pitchfork wrote, "... these aren't robots, it's a bonefide band man!", and Gizmodo proclaimed, "robot band at least as good as Coldplay".

Requests rolled in and the Trons were packed into flight cases and sent off to Europe to open the Mercedes Benz site at the Paris Auto Show. 2009 saw them play around 30 NZ gigs including classic hangouts Mighty Mighty, Chicks Hotel, and the Auckland Big Day Out. They finished off the year with an artists residency in Austria, playing galleries in Vienna, festivals in Prague, and stage diving hooligans in Berlin.

So after a couple of years of gigging and song writing the Trons finally got into the studio mid 2010 to put together an album. The songs are all original and influenced by the likes of the Clean, Velvet Underground, White Stripes, and Stereolab.

This is indeed the first ever rock album released by robots. As well as being your usual youthful garage band, the Trons are a serious exploration of machines with guitars and their sonic capabilities. Like any human band the Trons just want to develop their style, create great songs, and put on a good show.
