Dave Edwards is a songwriter in the tradition of (though by no means imitating) such idiosyncratic auteurs as Neil Young, Will Oldham, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Mark E. Smith, John Cale, or fellow New Zealanders Alastair Galbraith, Peter Jefferies and Chris Knox. The latter three have all been in his audiences. His work draws on an often intensely poetic flair for words and wordplay, and a strong grasp of songwriting technique.
