Leaving on a jet plane

28.07.10
I've been trying to ignore the NZ Music Charts the past few weeks as from the local chart placements they seem to have caught a dose of mid year blues... and this week isn't that much different except for perhaps Die! Die! Die!'s album entry at 19 the chart doesn't change that much.
In the album charts we don't see a local until we get to number 17 where Gin Wigmore's Holy Smoke sits. At three times platinum and 40 weeks on the chart it really has been quite the achiever for Gin.
Our second local entry comes from the new kids on the new Flying Nun Die! Die! Die. There latest album Form romps at number 19. Just behind them is Julia Deans with her debut solo effort Modern Fables clocking up its second week. Fat Freddy's no strangers to our album charts have Live At The Roundhouse charting at number 25.
The Deceptiknoz are next with Evolution: Past, Present, Beyond at 28 and three weeks on the chart. Crowded House are next with their latest album Intriguer and just behind them is Dane Rumble and The Experiment. Finally Shapeshifter who are currently touring have popped back into the charts with System Is A Vampire.
The singles chart only has six locals this week... I quite like being able to say 'only' as once upon a time one local act in the singles chart was something special, gotta love the effect digital sales have brought to our charts. In singles land Stan Walker has new single Choose You debuting at 7 with J Williams feat Dane Rumble's Takes Me Higher at eight. The Naked And Famous's Young Blood is at 15.
Kids of 88 are next with their latest cut Downtown whilst Stuck In A Box from Young Sid feat Stan Walker is at 26. Finally we have I Am Giant's Neon Sunrise at 35.
Hopefully the chart will perk up a little for our lot next week as the latest batch of local albums and singles resonate at the storefront... I expect today's featured release to make a good showing for example...

Release Of The Day:
Nesian Mystik - 99 A.D
Nesian Mystik's 99 A.D will be released on 26 July 2010. The band's fourth album in a lineage of chart toppers, 99 A.D is jam-packed with the Nesians' trademark Polynesian sound mixed with hip-hop and smooth R&B.
You can't help but be warmed by the Nesian's melodic harmonies, proven with the recent chart success of Sun Goes Down which reached #3 on the NZ singles chart and raced up to #11 on the NZ Airplay chart. The third and current track from the album No. 1 hit the ground running at radio and is shaping up to be yet another dance floor anthem.
Nesian Mystik are one of New Zealand's most loved groups, a fact endorsed by the sheer scale of their success. We're talking three Top 20 albums (including 2002's Polysaturated which went 4 x Platinum and 2006's Gold Freshmen release), 11 x Top 10 Singles (3 Gold and 2 Platinum, more than any other Kiwi act in history), two New Zealand Music Awards, two APRA awards, four Pacific Music Awards, a Juice TV Music Video Award, an MTV Australia Award plus many more.
