You Are Here

09.06.10

It has got noticeably colder here in Amplifier Dungeons of late, might have something to do with winter. The knowledge that winter is most certainly here is only further reinforced as Mr Music Manager has fled to hotter climes to tour with BSM (Europe for six weeks)... so as we 'freeze' he's beaching himself in European splendour - at least that is how I imagine it.

For those of you over there enjoying warmer times (in Europe) news that Ladi6 and production partner Parks are still touring Europe and UK with over 50 dates to go before touring Japan and Australia then heading back to her homeland of New Zealand to tour in November.

those of you like myself stuck here in gloomy old New Zealand we've Sola Rosa to look forward to as he takes the van and band out on the road to 4 towns across NZ, delivering their renowned diverse elements of funk, soul, reggae, latin, lounge and jazz to the masses.

if leaving the house to experience live music sends a shiver down your spine perhaps something pre-recorded to be enjoyed in the comfort of home...

Release Of The Day:
Pitch Black - Rude Mechanicals - EP

Pitch Black unleash the second single from 07's Rude Mechanicals album. The original is a dub drenched groover reminiscent of Leftism-era Leftfield. The vocal contribution comes from Sunshine Soundsystem's KP - a timely meditation on human greed and environmental destruction.

Remixes come from all over the place, both geographically and musically: Myspace 'friend' Mistrust hails from Northern England and provides a tech'ed up version, sounding eerily like Electronomicon-era PB; PZ is fABEL honcho James Meharry, utilizing his favourite 3beat technique; PB's very own Mike Hodgson revitalizes his much underused Misled Convoy guise to drench the track in even more delay (!) while Australia's Sound Guise takes a decidedly left field approach, adding guitar and vocals from Natty Bambam, lending it an old school trip hop kinda feel.

Charting the mainstream:

With NZ Music Month's possible impact on the sales of music now well and truly behind us this week we're still seeing plenty of green on the local music charts.

Gin is still casting her spell on the local buying public and once again tops the chart which sees Holy Smoke at number 10. Dane Rumble is next in the line-up with the Experiment; he's at number 14 this week with J Williams not far behind with Young Lovers, J's at 16.

At 20 this week is Buffalo from the Phoenix Foundation. Dragon's best of is next at 22 and then there is quite a drop off to number 31 where Young Sid has taken up residence this week with his album What Doesn't Kill Me.

Final two entries in the album stakes come from Anika Moa who is at 33 and Freddy's on the eve of the release of their next live album are back with The Big BW this week at number 40.

In Singles chart land Dane Rumble features on takes me Higher the number two single courtesy of J Williams.

Poi E has dropped back to number 7 this week suggesting we just may not see it get to number one - which is a bit of a shame as that would have been cool.

Other local acts doing stuff on the singles chart are: Nesian Mystik, Stan Walker, Kids Of 88, Dukes and Opshop.
