Oranges & Lemons

27.05.10

We've added a bunch of new videos to the site over the past couple of days, actually we're always adding new music, videos and other items to the site and you can check out the new items on our recent additions page or sit back and wait for us to mention them somewhere.

For the serious about the business of music heads don't forget the NZ Music Seminars that are being hosted around the country thanks to The NZ Music Commission and the NZ Music Managers Forum. Entry to all seminars is FREE and open to the public (except for CHARTFEST).

Release Of The Day:
Pitch Black - Bird Soul - EP

Pitch Black jump into Music Month with this superb selection of remixes of Bird Soul, one of the stand out tracks on their Rude Mechanicals album - a kinda ambient/drum and bass track reminiscent of Paddy Free's production work for Salmonella Dub.

Londoners Fold and Horace provide a sparse reduction of the original for their remix: snatches of bass, beats and melody weave in and out until the final woofer worrying finale. Montreal resident, Subtone takes the tune for a more traditional drum and bass workout, all taut beats and restrained funk, while Minuit's production maestro FunknSloCuts goes for a cheeky dancefloor vibe, managing to make breakbeats sound like they were invented in the '80s.

Finally Kerretta blow the whole thing out of the water with an amazingly indescribable remix - labels like "post rock", "angular rock" and "shoegaze" don't do them any justice at all, while sublime, stunning and cinematic possibly do.
