For those that are organised Rhythm & Vines are selling tickets for their New Year's festival already; "To celebrate NZ Music Month, we have released Tickets on sale for the Rhythm and Vines 2010 Festival, as we are in our 8th year of being a NZ Music supporter. We like Humphreys & Keen and we like vinyl so today's featured release is perfect fodder for me to blather on about this morning...
Release Of The Day:
Humphreys & Keen - The Overflow LP
The debut album from the duo, with Humphrey's remarkably sophisticated and sensitive piano playing beautifully matched by Keen's gorgeously affecting vocals and lyrics.
Guests include former Able Tasmans Jane Dodd, Craig Mason, Ron Young, Leslie Jonkers and Peter Scott, with help from Victoria Kelly (strings) and Kingsley Melhuish (brass).
Now it is available on individually hand-numbered, 180gm vinyl with a free download code for the full album!
Charting the mainstream:
There are eleven albums from kiwi's in this week's official top 40 Album Chart. The pick of the litter or at least that which grabbed the most sales last week was Gin Wigmore whose album Holy Smoke goes up a few places to sit at 7 this week.
Anika Moa is at 9 with the Buffalo from the Phoenix Foundation just behind her at 8. Dragon is at 13 and Young Sid's new album What Doesn't Kill Me debuts at a respectable 16.
Dane Rumble's at 20 with The Experiment and P-Money's Evrything enters the chart at 25. Just behind him is J Williams' Young Love. Hollie Smith latest is still charting and this week sees her at 28.
Final two entrants are Stan Walker at 30 and 1814 at 33.
Eight singles from locals in the top 40 this week with J Williams, Nesian Mystik, Stan Walker, Kids oF 88, Dukes, Patea Maori Club and Dane Rumble flying the flag.
A bit late to the party but The Great NZ Songbook makes its NZMM appearance at number 10 this week in the compilation chart.
