05.03.10
I popped over the fence last night to the Grey Lynn Park to catch Collapsing Cities perform before the screening of Goodbye Pork Pie as part of Auckland cities Music in Parks. It was a wonderful way to unwind after a days computer watching. The council have a bunch of activities going on currently; check out their website for program details - all of them free!
Who do you think deserves to win the inaugural Taite Music Prize? Give us your pick via this week's poll on the home page.
Speaking of free events, this weekend is the 95bFM Summer Series which is always a fun day out... kicking off at midday in Albert park, see you there.

The Mermaids - The Cocktail Song (Salsa Remix!)
The Mermaids are vocalists Joe Cotton, Amber Claire, Pauline Berry and guitarist Martin Winch.
The Cocktail Song written by Martin Winch & Pauline Berry has been given an authentic salsa uplift from keyboard and programming producer/genius Stuart Pearce with the results being kitsch, fruity and fun.
Thanks to the Mermaids you can download The Cocktail Song (Salsa Remix) for a week free from March 4th.
Today's featured release
Lewis McCallum - Syntheology
Syntheology is Lewis McCallum's highly anticipated new album and it is a meeting of two ideas: synth, meaning synthetic or artificial, and theology, refering to organic or philosophical ideas.
This plays out on the album as sax player McCallum uses a plethora of old and new synths and other computer generated sounds as raw materials, but throws them around with a swirling organic approach.
Syntheology also features guest vocal appearances from Francis Kora (Kora), Mara TK (Electric Wire Hustle), Tama Waipara, Cherie Mathieson, Esther Stephens (Solaa) and Deva Mahal, from New York via the internet!
Syntheology was written, produced and mostly played by McCallum. It is released on his own Finch label.
