Auckland music geeks are spoilt this weekend for activities, apart from the usual lineup of must see gigs and shows two events stand out for the music obsessed, first up there is the Auckland Record Collectors Fair.

It includes vintage New Zealand and foreign vinyl and New Vinyl Imports. Expect all styles of music -- 60s, rare, dance, soul, rock, bargain etc vinyl. I will be selling more funk, soul vinyl, vintage music magazines etc.

The event also has stalls selling vinyl turntables, styli, cartridges and record cleaning gear. The fair runs from 10am to 3pm.

For those with a penchant for music making machines should head along to Music Machines also on Saturday. It is a one day celebration of electronic music bringing together New Zealand's largest collection of classic synthesiser's and drum machines. Release the geek and take a peek.

As both events take place during the day you may like to take in a band or DJ that evening. As ever we'll be sharing our picks for the weekends gigs on Friday and Saturday, in the meantime check Makuna for a comprehensive break down of all thats on offer.

Now enough looking jafacentric weekend action, we've still the week to get through and with that in mind here's today's music pick from us:

Release Of The Day
Tommy Ill - Come Home Mr. Ill

Tommy's pretty proud of his third EP and thinks it's his best work yet. "I'm pretty proud of it, I think it's my best work yet." says Tommy Ill.

"I wanted to make an EP of more upbeat songs, party songs even. Maybe not for the party itself but more for the pre-party drinks you have at your friend's house with a bunch of buddies before you head to the actual party. It's music to be tipsy and excited to."

"I like to think that with Come Home Mr. Ill, I'm going in the complete opposite direction of what people would guess I would have done next. Also, I get to rap about Pokemon."

May the good tunes be yours.
Ed
