A Cup Of Tea and a Lie Down

18.11.09
A massive congratulations goes out to Shapeshifter today, their album System Is A Vampire debuted at number on in the official top forty this week and with only three days sales counted in the chart period - as the album was released on Friday. A great result for the band and their fans.
We takea look at the locals in this weeks chart below, but first up time for a cuppa...
Release Of The Day
Teacups - Forest Fiction
The three charming young women of Teacups considered calling their first release, The Sexy Night-Time Show, but in a change of heart altered it to Forest Fiction. In retrospect, a more appropriate title, but you should listen to the album and decide for yourself (needlessly saucy wink).
Produced by soon to be super producer Dave Parker (Artisan Guns, Bear Cat, Clap Clap Riot) on Forest Fiction you'll hear the bouncy single Magic, which featured on Real Groove's Awesome Feeling III compilation and a Massey University television advert.
There's the yearning Wave At Me From Across The Sea, the secretly sad French forays of Mon Petit Poisson Avec Beats prior to Chelsea receiving any (much needed) pronunciation lessons, and the melancholy wordplay of the subtly devastating Patches.
Chart Attack
As the festive buying session kicks in the chart has changed a lot this week with many of the local charting acts making way for greatest hits packages and big name acts dropping albums to capitalize on the time of year.
Shapeshifter stormed the chart this week taking the top spot. No small achievement for any local act usually and Shapeshifter captured the number one spot with only three days of sales in this week chart period and they managed to hold out against the Foo Fighters and Michael Jackson albums to boot. The System Is A Vampire indeed!
Gin Wigmore stays in the top five, this week see's her at number three for the second week in a row. Dave Dobbyn's Greatest Hits drops one place to land this week at number four.
Carl Doy holds his own at number ten this week whilst Ladyhawke slips to number 21. Fat Freddy's Drop have dropped six places to number 26 - Boondigga celebrates 25 weeks in the chart this week.
Flight Of The Conchords at 30 and Howard Morrison at 36, round out the locals in the album charts.
There are few locals kicking it in the singles chart. Gin Wigmore is the only one making the top twenty, her single Oh My is at number 12 this week. Kids In Space's Downtime is at number 27 and J Williams is at number 36 with his latest single Your Style.
The Great NZ Songbook is at number three this week in the compilation chart and continues to show no signs of budging from the chart - 29 weeks and 5 times platinum it is now.

Have a good one
