Chart Attack

Chart Attack

11.11.09

The Christmas stocking fillers of Greatest Hits and re-re-packaged Christmas fare starts to dominate at retail and thus the chart our local acts are still holding their own this week in the official music charts.

Gin is at number 3 this week with her debut album, she might find time this week to celebrate in between her heavy press and media engagements - has anyone not done a Gin feature yet?

Just behind Gin is the dude who's giving her a leg up in the business as he takes her out on his summer tour, yep Dobbo's greatest hits enters at number 4 and is certified gold. Perhaps Gin could help Dave get some press.

Carl Doy is at number ten and Ladyhawke continues to coast on her Tui sweep and is at number 12. Fat Freddy's Drop are back at number 20 - is it me or have NZ's cafes not embraced this album as they did the last (not that it is reflected in their chart)? Perhaps I don't go to cafes like I once did but I am pleased to say I have yet to hear Dr Boondigga in a Café, which is a good thing Cafe play nearly ruined BOATS for me... the times they are a changing huh.

Flight Of The Conchords who have been in the press of late suggesting they won't be doing a third session of their hit comedy show, déjà vu perhaps but wasn't the articles pre second session here focus on how they weren't looking at doing a 3rd session - or did I miss a meeting... anyways, they are at number 21 this week.

Midnight Youth are at 35 and Howard Morrison is one place behind them with Maisey Rika is back in the album chart this week with her debut Tohu at number 39.

There are only four acts in the singles chart this week, Gin Wigmore, Kidz In Space, Smashproof and two weeks in is Shapeshifter's Dutchies.

The Great NZ Songbook is at number two this week in the compilation chart.

Release Of The Day
The Eastern - Oh Mystery

Oh Mystery is five songs of footstomp fury, heartbreak and guts, recorded live over one night at C-city's sitting room studio.

The EP showcases The Eastern's energy, heart and humour, which has earned them the reputation as a ferocious live act with a road hardened spirit.

As well as The Eastern and family, Oh Mystery features Aaron Tokona on guitar and Jon Sancez-Lloyd on accordion and organ.

Have a good one
