Back to life, back to reality

27.10.09

I thought it would be really clever to come back from the long weekend this morning instead of getting caught up in traffic last night... rain meant the Auckland motorway was crawling adding an hour to my travel time, the radio stations were paying foreign music and their talking heads had nothing of consequence to say.

Now in front of my computer things are slowly coming together for another music week and what better way to kick things off than a new album from one of our many talented locals and here's one that may just wash away the harsh reality of the working week or in my case a day that started off on a bit of a downer - I challenge you to be grumpy after a listen to today's featured release.

Album of the day
The Brunettes - Paper Dolls

The Brunettes have a meticulous craft in the studio. Writing pop songs, that most fickle of forms, requires a precision that comes naturally to the band, and their records ring perfection in every note. Their sense of fun firmly intact, The Brunettes inject their new batch of songs with a sense of modernity on Paper Dolls.

A concise 35 minutes, Paper Dolls reaffirms the glory of a simple melody.

Righto, press play again... emails here I come...
