Super sized

24.09.09
Here in Auckland the city council has issued a draft of their proposed Liquor licensing policy. Some of the changes being proposed could have a dramatic impact on the venues we rely on for our live music fix - for example if the proposal is passed as is the Kings Arms which hosts a huge number of live shows may be forced to close at 11pm.
I don't know if I want to be super sober in our soon to be super city... these proposed changes seem like a step backwards to me and won't address many of the problems we face with alcohol.
In what I call my learner drinker days when pubs then closed at 10pm week nights and 11pm in the weekends and from my experience violence, drink driving and the other problems associated with the demon drink seemed much worse than one routinely sees these days, saying that we're still generally speaking a long way off being mature about our attitudes and handling of the booze.
If you would like to read the proposal go here and those interested in making your thoughts on the proposal you have only until October the 7th to put in any submissions on the proposed changes. (details found via the above link)
Feel free to share your thoughts with us via the Discuss option.
In news outside of Auckland The Bats, David Kilgour & the Heavy 8s & The Puddle are playing at Sammys in Dunedin on 7 November. Now thats a hot lineup right there...
