Prolepsis - Through This Moment

Prolepsis are a four piece melodic rock band based in Auckland, New Zealand, who spontaneously combusted into existence in the late 90's.

Prolepsis already have one E.P. (Self Titled) to their name, produced and engineered at On The Edge Studios in 2004 with previous band members, which was well received by a large audience.

With the evolution of the band in 2008, Prolepsis once again hit the studios, but this time at a much higher level to epitomise the new direction and structure of the band. The resulting EP, Revolve, was recorded at Counterpart Studios in early 2009, mastered by Angus McNaughton.

Thanks to Prolepsis you can sample their new EP by downloading Through This Moment for free for a week from Aug 13.

Paul from NZ On Screen informs us that the excellent 1996 Ten Guitars documentary has just been posted on NZ On Screen, free to view and in full-length:

"Ten Guitars gives warm-spirited context to the song that has been the soundtrack to countless back-lawn crate parties and freezing works chains (watch the credits). It was released as the B side of singer Engelbert Humperdinck's Please Release Me, and become an unlikely hit in New Zealand. The star is interviewed, as well as fans who have done the "dance, dance, dance ...": including the Finn bros, Pio Terei, Mika and Dalvanius (who discusses its "pop-schlock" charms). The doco also explores why "the national anthem of Patea" is so appealing to Māori."

NZ On Screen is the online showcase for New Zealand television and film, funded by NZ On Air and free to view.

Release Of The Day
Sharkweek - Egyptian Lions

Egyptian Lions offers similarly lush soundscapes to 2006 debut, The Hammerhead Nebula, punctuated with surreal samples, playful melodies and manipulated found sounds.

The musical themes drift between ambient, pop and dub. The songs are sometimes dreamy, sometimes deleriously playful. There's obvious evidence of Lewis' musical growth, yet it's also familiar enough to be unmistakeably Sharkweek.

Spheres of inspiration include outer space, all manner of pop culture and infomercials. Musical influence comes from varied sources such as The Orb, Future Sound Of London, Orbital, Boards of Canada, Lemon Jelly, Astralasia, Banco de Gaia and New Zealand luminaries like Module and Pitch Black. This eclectic mix, coupled with some stellar guest appearances from other musicians, makes for an evocative and sometimes surprising listening experience.
