* Read about these two very good albums released this year:
David Kilgour & Sam Hunt - Falling Debris
Arch Hill presents Falling Debris, the David Kilgour album with lyrics by NZ icon Sam Hunt!
Following an accidental meeting in Dunedin airport in 2007, Kilgour and Hunt hatched a plan to record an album of musical spoken word together. However, when Kilgour sat down and began singing Hunts poems, he realised he was being inspired to write better and better music to accompany these special turns of phrase.
Falling Debris was recorded in Kilgour's house by Thomas Bell, with regular band The Heavy 8's in tow. Sung and played entirely by Kilgour and his band (Hunt never appears), Falling Debris is the sound of a band already at one with each other - and 2 of NZ's most revered creative figures collaborating on some of the most affecting indie pop this side of a Clean album!
Valuable, serendipitous and very highly recommended.
Optimus Gryme - Eclipse
Optimus Gryme (aka Charlie B) spent two years creating his debut album entitled Eclipse.
The album showcases 11 original works and features remixes and collaborations with Billy Fluid, Truth, Organikismness, Fiona Soe Paing and Maraku Rewiti.
Charlie fondly refers to the album as, "2 years of heart and soul morphed into 60 minutes of audio for your listening pleasure". It was Charlie's focus to create an album that people of all musical tastes could enjoy, whether it is relaxing at home on a Sunday afternoon or rocking it out in a club.
