Today's featured Atoll release is from the Ngati Poneke Young Maori Club and features 36 recordings by club members, some dating back to the late 1930s. We also feature the new video from Iva Lamkum and this week's free download comes courtesy of Auckland hip hop crew Kolab.

Ngati Poneke Young Maori Club - Ko Ngati Poneke Hoki Matou

The 1930s saw many young Mori move from other parts of New Zealand to Wellington to work. Maori leaders Sir Apirana Ngata, Lady Miria Pomare and musician Kingi Tahiwi were among those who saw the need for a place where young people could gather for companionship and to learn and experience their culture.

Ngati Poneke Young Maori Club was formed in 1937, and has been based in Thorndon since 1944. Since that time the group has remained a centre for art and culture and venue for social life. In 1980, Ngti Pneke established Pipitea marae on Thorndon Quay.

These classic concert party recordings of the Ngati Poneke Young Maori Club feature solos by Witarina Harris, founder member.

The recordings, dating from the late 1930s are accompanied in their own right on the CD by wonderful texts and photographs.

In the news; this week at the MGMT DJ benefit show for Chris Knox some bright spark took one of the bands ipods.

"MGMT's manager David has contacted me saying that someone stole one of the band's iPods on Monday night. I can't believe how uncool this is! MGMT put on a show to help Chris out at a really terrible time in his life - they took no profits, organisied the show in a rush, & are great guys to boot.

We all get pissed and do dumb things occasionally (well at least I do) - the best thing is just to front up the next day and apologise, you usually get forgiven.

If anyone out there can help locate the iPod we'd be really grateful. If it could be returned to the Bacco Room or Toto restaurant there'll be no questions asked & we won't press any charges"

What were they thinking?

Iva Lamkum - No

Iva is currently completing her first album and No is the first single.

Not one to do things by halves, Iva has bought in some heavyweights behind her new track. Mixed by Clint Murphy (The Feelers, Opshop, Blindspott, 50 Cent) and mastered by Tom Coyne (Beyonce, Pink, Joss Stone) at Sterling Sound NY.

No features a rich live sound evidencing an upbeat departure from her debut EP.

Enjoy.
